Japanese chazutsu (tea canister) handmade in the natsume (round fruit) size with a traditional wood/resin core. Meticulously finished with Japanese tree lacquer in the Kara-nuri method; a random pattern distinguished by hand-flecking layers of lacquer and finely sanding between each coat. This chazutsu is flecked in forest green, black, and gold under a vibrant red top coat. A fitted inner lid preserves the freshness of loose leaf tea or matcha, while the exterior finish exhibits one of Japan's most celebrated chazutsu (tea canister) traditions.
Made by Kobayashi Lacquerware, founded in the late Edo period and led by sixth-generation master artisan Masakazu Kobayashi. Each tea canister receives over 40 coats of lacquer in the course of two months and is highly individualized with organic textures and movement. Many pieces of Tsugaru-nuri lacquerware can be found on display in cultural Japanese museums.
