Jinko Oju (designated aloeswood) is the finest grade of Japanese incense available on the market, one tier below Imperial grade oju incense which is made to order for traditional ceremonies. The Kodo (way of fragrance) tradition is highly protected in Japan, honoring secret recipes that date back to the 8th century. This ceremonial grade incense is called "Manaka", in the Rikkoku-gomi (six countries, five flavors) taxonomy, and although it is said to be Bornean aloeswood, the actual origin of ceremonial jinko still remains a mystery. Kodo circles describe it as quiet and profoundly elusive; an ethereal fragrance of the unknown.
