Traditional kabazaiku (cherry bark craft) chazutsu (tea canister) handmade by Tomioka Shoten using the centuries-old kabazaiku technique of applying hand-scraped wild cherry bark to a wooden core. This tea canister is finished in the bokashi style, meaning that the upper half is polished while the lower half remains unworked to preserve the bark's natural appearance. The result is a tangible gradient from wild to refined, exhibiting the full beauty of the Yamazakura (mountain cherry tree).

Japanese mountain cherry bark is naturally fragrant, regulates humidity, and has antibacterial properties that make it an ideal container for storing delicate sencha or gyokuro tea leaves; fitted with a precisely carved inner lid that seals to keep tea fresh.

The art of Kabazaiku dates to the 18^th century, when the Satake Samurai introduced the technique. Each piece made in this art form is still created entirely by hand, continuing the legacy of samurai artisans who transformed bark into useful implements of refined beauty.
